Syndicate used apps to sell drugs to outlets

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A Syndicate that uses WhatsApp and WeChat apps to take orders and supply drugs to entertainment outlets here was busted with the arrest of a 38-year-old man in front of Sun Complex, Jalan Bukit Bintang, at 1.15am on Thursday.

In the operations conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department team, the man was found in possession of 257g of ecstasy worth RM25,700.

“Investigations showed that the man was the one taking orders and making deliveries since the syndicate started five months ago,” said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.

Mazlan said after the first arrest, police detained a 47-yearold man at a house in Jalan Jelaka, Taman Maluri, Cheras at 12.56pm on the same day.

“In the arrest, police found 4.117kg of ecstasy powder, 148g of methamphetamine and 134g of ketamine, worth RM457,700, at the house.

“We believe the house is used as a warehouse where they packed and mixed the drugs into beverage sachets.

“Investigations also revealed that after the first suspect received orders, he would collect the drugs at the warehouse before delivering to customers.”

He said the sachets — Green Tea and Iced Lemon Tea — were sold at between RM250 and RM400, depending on the weight.

He said waiters or waitresses at entertainment outlets would contact the syndicate to buy drugs, which explained why police were not able to find the drugs at the outlets in operations.

The duo have been remanded for seven days until April 11 to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
