Lender organises business networking session for customers in Terengganu
AGROBANK, a government-owned bank under the Minister of Finance Inc (MFI), organised a business networking session called “Agenda Agro: Prospect and Opportunities in Agriculture Sector” in Terengganu recently.
The programme was attended by more than 170 Agrobank clients and agropreneurs from the state.
Agenda Agro was aimed at providing the latest updates on the agriculture sector to Agrobank’s customer and agropreneurs.
It also provided clients the opportunity to interact with Agrobank officers.
Agrobank president and chief executive officer Tuan Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan said Agrobank was committed to assisting agropreneurs via various initiatives, including training and capacity building.
In addition to comprehensive financing schemes, Agenda Agro helped agropreneurs to develop strategies for growing their businesses.
“Terengganu has great potential to develop its agriculture sector. As at December last year, Agrobank recorded total financing of RM448.03 million in the state, a year-on-year increase of 25.39 per cent,” said Syed Alwi.
He said Agenda Agro focused on challenges faced by agropreneurs, mainly by small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Agrobank provides various platforms to support SME development, such as strategic collaboration with agencies, agropreneur development programmes and information sharing about products and services.
“We are hopeful that such initiatives will create successful entrepreneurs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prokhas Sdn Bhd, the in-house restructuring outfit of the Finance Ministry, delivered a presentation on working capital guarantee scheme (WCGS) by Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd.
The WCGS was established to assist SMEs in gaining access to financing from participating financial institutions (including Agrobank).
Also at the event, sponsorships worth RM80,100 were presented to 1,068 Agro Mabrur-i beneficiaries in Terengganu by the Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, as well as zakat contributions to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu worth RM30,000.
