MENTERI Besar Selangor Inc (MBI Selangor) and Railway Assets Corp (RAC) will draft a development plan to build affordable homes on RAC land in Selangor.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari

said both parties would focus on transit-oriented developments (TODs).

“Aimed at promoting sustainable and liveable communities, the development will make a provision for desirable and affordable housing and good connectivity, simultaneously looking into revitalising economic development around railway stations,” he said after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between MBI Selangor and RAC to develop strategic railway assets, here, yesterday.

Amirudin said the joint initiative reflected the federal government’s support in helping Selangor realise its vision to be a smart state by 2025 that would connect integrated public transport with affordable homes.

“We are constantly challenging ourselves to resolve the issues of the people. This effort will also revitalise economic development around railway stations and the community.”

RAC, which owns about 1,461ha of railway land in Selangor, also manages assets related to railway infrastructure and ancillary facilities in Malaysia.

The initial development for the project would start in Bangi and Port Klang.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the MoU would be a progressive move to realising the National Housing Policy.

“The moves goes hand in hand with the government’s plan to carry out TOD projects by creating affordable housing components in planned developments.”
