APATHOLOGIST told the Coroner's Court yesterday that there were conflicting summaries made in the post-mortem report of the late firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Dr Shahrom Abdul Wahid, who is a retired pathologist from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, said he found three main issues with the summaries No. 28 and 29.

“First was whether the deceased

voluntarily went out of his vehicle. Second was whether the deceased was pulled by another person, and thirdly, whether the deceased sustained injuries due to being pinned between two hard surfaces.

“In the report, the specialist said he was not sure. In point No. 29, he said he could not simply exclude or safely dismiss that the victim was pinned between two hard surfaces.

“What confused me in the summary was the hypothesis given about the victim alighting the vehicle, being hit by the Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) van door, and being hurled to the road kerb.

“However, summary No. 28 said he (the specialist) could not determine whether Adib alighted voluntarily, or was pulled by another person… The explanations given by the same specialist were contradictory,” said Dr Shahrom.

He was answering questions from Syazlin Mansor, who is representing the Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Fire and Rescue Department.

Dr Shahrom is the 29th witness in an inquest to determine Adib’s cause of death. The inquest, which is held before coroner Rofiah Mohamad, entered its 29th day yesterday.

Rofiah fixed 10.30am on Monday to hear submissions from both parties involved in the inquest regarding a proposal to recall the 24th witness, Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) forensic specialist Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi.

She asked the conducting officers and lawyers representing the ministry and Adib’s family to properly submit the request to determine if Dr Hafizam would be giving a rebuttal statement or another form of testimony.

Conducting officer Faten Hadni Khairuddin said Dr Hafizam needed to be recalled because the recent witness (Dr Shahrom) had described the post-mortem report findings by Dr Hafizam as “not possible”.

It was claimed that Adib, 24, died from severe injuries sustained after he was allegedly assaulted by rioters at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on Nov 27.
