Cops probing uploading of court video on Facebook

-

Police will launch an investigation into the court recording and transcription (CRT) video of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s trial, which was uploaded on Facebook (FB) on Friday.

City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim told Bernama that police would make a first information report (FIR) on the investigation as no one had lodged a report.

“The FIR report was made to enable an investigation to be initiated.

“Police will determine what offences had been committed,” he said yesterday.

Mazlan urged those with information to come forward.

He said the public should share information with the police instead of sharing them on social media.

On Friday, a video with a duration of two minutes and 12 seconds titled “Hari kelima perbicaraan Datuk Seri Najib” (Fifth day of Datuk Seri Najib’s trial) was uploaded on FB.

It showed Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, questioning a witness.

It was learnt that the recording was uploaded via the FB account of Najib’s former special officer, Isham Jalil, at noon on Friday.

On FB yesterday, Isham said he had not committed any contempt of court since the general order of the court only prohibited unapproved live telecasts and personal recordings of the proceedings.

“The video that was uploaded yesterday (Friday) was neither a live telecast nor a personal recording.

“It was recorded by the court using the CRT system and not by any other parties.”

Minister in the Prime Minister ’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said the court would take action against individuals who uploaded the video footage of Najib’s trial on FB.

“What is disappointing is that the video doesn’t give a complete picture of what happened in court.

“Instead, it gives false hope as it is shortened via editing,” he told Bernama.
