3 NEW FACES IN JOHOR EXCO
Two dropped, new line-up sees changes in exco members’ portfolios
TWO Johor executive council members were dropped and three new faces were appointed in a reshuffle yesterday.
This followed the appointment of Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal as Johor menteri besar.
The reshuffle also saw changes in the executive council members’ portfolios.
The two who were dropped were Tan Hong Ping, who held the Local Government, Science and Technology portfolio, and Mazlan Bujang, the Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport Committee chairman.
The new executive council members are Jementah assemblyman
Tan Chen Choon of DAP, Tenang assemblyman Mohd Solihan Badri of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Bukit Permai assemblyman Tosrin Jarvanthi also from Bersatu.
Aminolhuda Hassan (AmanahParit Yaani), Dzulkefly Ahmad (Parti Amanah Negara-Kota Iskandar), Jimmy Puah (PKRBukit Batu), Dr S. Ramakrishnan (DAP-Bekok), Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar (PKR-Semerah), Sheikh Omar Ali (DAP-Paloh) and Liow Cai Tung (DAP-Johor Jaya) were the executive councillors who had been retained.
Dr Sahruddin said the changes in the line-up had received the consent of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
“I have also reshuffled the portfolios for the executive council members,” he said.
Under the reshuffle, the menteri besar will be heading the Natural Resources, Administration, Finance, Planning and Economic Development Committee.
Aminolhuda, who was the Islamic Affairs and Education Committee chairman, will now helm the Education, Human Resources, Science and Technology portfolio, while Dzulkefly, who previously held the Housing and Rural Development portfolio, is now the Housing, Communication and Multimedia Committee chairman.
Khuzzan, who was previously the Youth, Sport and Culture Committee chairman, now helms the Health, Culture and Heritage Committee while Sheikh Omar Ali, the former Entrepreneur Development, Cooperative and Creative Economy Committee chairman, now heads the Youth, Sport, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative portfolio.
Former Consumerism, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Dr Ramakrishnan will now lead the Unity, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs portfolio, while Liow, who previously held the Women Development and Tourism portfolio, is now Tourism and Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman.
Puah, the state International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee chairman, is the only executive councillor whose portfolio was unchanged.
Of the new faces, Solihan has been appointed as the Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman, Tosrin as Islamic Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Development Committee chairman and Chen Choon as the Local Government, Urban Wellbeing and Environment Committee chairman.
Dr Sahruddin said now was the time for the executive councillors to work hard and reduce the politicking.
“They have been given the responsibility and the people expect us to deliver the promises and initiatives that we have made. We must ensure that the people’s welfare are well taken care of,” he said.
Dr Sahruddin also expressed his gratitude to Mazlan and Hong Pin for their contributions as state executive councillors.
Earlier, the executive councillors took their oath before Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Serene here.
Dr Sahruddin was sworn in as the 17th Johor menteri besar on April 14, after Datuk Osman Sapian resigned earlier this month.
