SCHOOL principal Datin Foziah Ahmad was on cloud nine, literally, when she was given a grand send-off at her retirement ceremony, in a helicopter, yesterday.

Teachers, staff and students of SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail accompanied her to the school field where she boarded a R44, 9MWIN helicopter alongside her husband Datuk Mohd Azmi Ismail at 1.50pm.

When met later, Foziah was overwhelmed.

“I definitely did not expect this. When I saw the helicopter on the field, I was taken by surprise. It made me feel special and appreciated, although I only served the school for a short period,” Foziah said.

She added that she was excited and worried at the same time as this was her first helicopter ride.

“I am thankful for this wonderful ‘gift’. I will cherish this day forever.”

The school’s senior assistant (administration), Hanizah Osman, 41, said they felt the helicopter ride would be a fitting appreciation for Foziah.

“Today (yesterday) is her last day of service. She has been a teacher for 32 years, so this was intended to be a well-deserved surprise,” Hanizah said.

Senior assistant (curriculum) Ahmad Farazila, said although Foziah had been with the school for only 20 months, she was committed to her work and contributed to the school in many ways.

“Her retirement is a big loss because she was caring towards the teachers, staff and students. She was very passionate about the school. We wanted her to leave with sweet memories.”
