PARENTING AND FAMILY LIFE

FAMILY life can be chaotic. Sometimes we try to juggle so much that the idea of fun never enters our heads. The demands of life often don’t leave room for really enjoying yourself and the wonderful people whom you are sharing your home with.

When you look back at your family life in 20 years time, what kind of memories do you want to have? In order to build a bank of delightful memories for the future, now is the time to create them. Here are some steps to help you along the way:

PRIORITISE FUN

If someone comes into your room in a playful mood while you are feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders, take a moment to relax and breathe deeply. Then give yourself permission to take a break from pressure even if it is only for one minute.

Give space to fun in your day. Laughing and stepping out of the humdrum are excellent ways for bonding and improving the health and the well-being of your family. They also help you find solutions to your problems.

START LOVING YOURSELF JUST THE WAY YOU ARE.

Most of us have been programmed to believe we are not good enough in some ways or another. This is false! Treat yourself with compassion and love. There is no other you and you are special.

BRING WONDER INTO YOUR FAMILY LIFE.

When challenges arise, instead of worrying or being scared... begin to wonder.

Start by asking questions like: “I wonder how this will be resolved?”, `”I wonder what lovely surprises are around the corner?’”, or “I wonder how this will bring more joy into our lives?”. This has an immediate impact on your stress level and helps you to see solutions which may not have been apparent.

CREATE A VISION FOR YOUR FAMILY.

Know what kind of family life you want. Sit down and paint the picture of how you really want your home and family life to be by focusing on the feelings of love, peace, and happiness. Make a list of things you want to do as a family. Make a vision board with pictures of what you want to achieve and hang it in a prominent place. Then set a goal and start taking steps towards it. Visit your vision regularly and add to it.

MAKE A LIST OF WHAT IS GOING WELL IN YOUR LIFE.

At the end of each day, feel grateful for what you love about your family life and for the many wonderful things you have now. This is a lovely exercise to do with your partner and children and amplies the feelings of love and harmony in your home.
