Grant for PhD in Business at Sunway Uni

-

THE Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has recently sealed a deal with Super Memory Map (SMM) Education Group to enable two scholars to study in the area of entrepreneurship leading to the award of PhD in Business at Sunway University.

The scholarship, SMM Centre for Nested Entrepreneurship Doctoral Scholarship, was made possible thanks to SMM founder Dr Lim Teck Hing, Sunway University Business School alumnus, who donated RM360,000 to the foundation.

Signing on behalf of the foundation, Tan Sri Razman Hashim, who is the trustee, said: “We are grateful for Lim’s generosity as an alumnus of the university. SMM’s unique methodology has benefited and improved the lives of many children and his passion for the next generation is underscored today.”

Lim, the first PhD graduate of the Sunway University Business School, founded SMM in 2002. SMM Education Group is one of the leading organisations in Malaysia and Singapore, providing a wide range of premier, innovative and interactive, and well-researched whole brain development programmes for pupils from six to 12.

Instead of teaching children how to study, SMM’s methodology is focused on teaching them how to learn with joy while developing multiple skills.

SMM has 1,000 learning centres in Malaysia and Singapore, and more than 30,000 children have graduated from its centres.

Lim said: “We are happy to be able to contribute to the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which focuses on giving deserving students accessible quality education.

“We have seen the foundation’s good work and we trust that our donation will be put to good use. We hope the foundation’s efforts can nurture more young and budding talents to support the progress of the nation.”

He said he donated to the foundation because what he learnt when he was studying at Sunway University Business School was instrumental to his success.

“My experience has given me the gift of the knowledge and quality education that I needed to succeed. It inspired me to cultivate values and contribute to society.”

Applications for the scholarship is open to Malaysian and international students. They will be reviewed by Sunway University Business School.

Sunway University offers a wide range of postgraduate programmes, including PhD in Biology, PhD in Computing (by research), PhD in Psychology and PhD in Mathematical Science.
