FOR Kyle Troup, keeping the tradition is important, but he also likes to bring the excitement wherever he goes.

Making his debut at this week’s Malaysian Open, the three-time Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour winner from the United States is ready to put up a show, not just with his hair but with his outfit and antics as well.

Troup, a gold medal winner (trios) at the Men’s World Championships in Hong Kong last year, said: “This outfit is a Troup tradition according to my dad (Guppy

Troup).

“I am also a flamboyant bowler. In fact, part of my preparation includes making sure that my hair looks good.

“I want to bring a little excitement to Malaysia this week,” said Troup, who will also be joined by seven-time PBA Tour winner, Dominic Barrett (England) and 13time winner Sean Rash.

Barret said things have changed so much for Malaysian bowling over the last two decades, and he is excited to go up against some of the local favourites, including defending champion Rafiq Ismail.

“You know it was only in the last 20 years that you had coaches from the PBA coming here to develop the grassroots and look at Malaysian bowling now.

“Just recently, the girls did well at the Asian Youth Championships, and I truly feel jealous because in England, we don't have this.

“As for going up against the bowlers here, it's going to be great. I've played with Rafiq before and he is a talented young bowler.

“If he continues to journey with the PBA, he will have a very bright future,” said Barret, who will be making his seventh appearance at the Malaysian Open.

Apart from Troup, Barrett and Rash, the other top names set to grace the lanes this week are Americans Andrew Anderson and Tom Daugherty along with Thailand’s Yannaphon Larpapharat and Annop Arromsaranon, Australia’s Sam Cooley, Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong and Michael Mak, and Singapore’s Jaris Goh.

They will be joined by Malaysia’s very own world champions Adrian Ang, Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam and Rafiq to name a few.

The tournament ends on Friday.
