ALL MPS SHOULD HAVE REPORT CARD
MEMBERS of parliament should be morally obligated to show constituents their performance at least once a year. May 9 marked one year since Pakatan Harapan defeated Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election. History was made.
Recently, I received a WhatsApp report card from Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil outlining the work he had carried out in the past year. I must say that I was taken by surprise. This is the first time I received information from an MP on the work he has done.
Fahmi summarised his work thus: RESTORED the name and heritage of Kampung Kerinchi;
ORGANISED regular town hall sessions to listen to issues and challenges facing Lembah Pantai residents; IMPLEMENTED Projek Angkat to help 2,400 houseowners in Taman Seri Sentosa to obtain strata ownership titles;
EXPANDED the People’s Tuition Programme to include free English language classes;
INTRODUCED a food bank with reasonable prices for fresh fish, benefitting the Bottom 40 income group; DREW up a traffic plan for Kampung Kerinchi and Pantai Dalam; INTRODUCED free GoKL bus services;
ORGANISED Hari Bersama Rakyat in residential areas with the participation of agencies such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Inland Revenue Board, Welfare Department and Baitumal;
ASSISTED in the repairs of infrastructure and amenities at the Travers, Pantai and Petaling police stations, Bukit Aman police quarters and the Pantai Fire and Rescue Department; and,
STARTED “kebun-kebun kecil” (small gardens) in Kerinchi and in Sentosa.
Kudos to Lembah Pantai’s diligent MP who scores well among his constituents in his first year in office. Fahmi has set a fine example for other elected representatives, be they MPs or state assemblymen. BENEDICT LOPEZ Kuala Lumpur
