Animal lover, 17, dies after a day in coma

-

KOTA BARU: Ever since he was a boy, Ahmad Razin Sapri would follow his father to feed stray cats in their village and other areas in Bachok almost every day.

His love for the felines continued well into his teenage years.

The Form Five student of Maahad Yaakubiah Nipah never missed feeding them when he returned from school and during weekends.

However, Razin’s kind act came to an abrupt stop when he died last Thursday.

Razin’s uncle Nasrul Mohamed said the 17-year-old was riding his motorcycle from his home in Kampung Nakhoda Saamah to Irama Beach in Bachok on Wednesday to feed stray cats when he lost control of the machine and rammed into a mortuary fence.

“Razin, who is the fifth of eighth siblings, had asked for his father’s permission to go to the beach.

“He had just bought cat food from a nearby sundry shop when the incident happened at 7.30am. He was badly injured in the crash and was sent by motorists to the hospital.

“The cat food was strewn all over the roadside near his body,” said the 43-year-old lawyer yesterday.

Nasrul said Razin, who was scheduled to sit the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination this year, was in a coma and died at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian at 2.45am the following day.

He said Razin was buried at the Kampung Nakhoda Saamah cemetery. More than 50 family members, relatives and classmates attended the burial.

Razin’s story went viral after it was uploaded by Nasrul on his Facebook account recently.
