#MySchoolGoals promotes reading culture
Aiming to inculcate the reading habit and a positive learning environment among school students, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan TTDI Jaya (SMK TTDI Jaya), Shah Alam launched #MySchoolGoals International Festival which will take place on July 30.
Themed ‘Bringing the World to Your Classroom’, the festival is open to students from schools in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Interested participants can register through an online participation form at www. myschoolgoals.com.
The festival is supported by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, Selangor State Government, Selangor Tourism and Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor.
According to programme manager Adibah Omar, the inaugural festival will highlight three key components namely FokusBaca, strategic partner open competition and Selangor edu-tourism exploration.
“FocusBaca will bring programmes to promote reading such as young adult book fair and book exchange which is aligned with the government’s aspiration of National Reading Decade programme,” said Adibah who is also the head of language department of SMK TTDI Jaya.
Touted as the largest book swapping in Malaysia, the book exchange programme is expecting the participation of more than 3, 000 students.
“Meanwhile, the strategic partner open competition will hold various exciting activities and contests such as news reports via Instagram, short video competition and 3D wall mural painting.
Selangor edu-tourism exploration will focus on promoting tourism products and introducing the culture of local communities.
“Students participating in this competition will receive certificates recognised by the Ministry of Education highlighting their participation at the international level,” she added.
The launching was attended by Ministry of Education Daily School Management assistant director Yong Mohd Salleh and SMK TTDI Jaya principal Azahar Nor Arifin Ahmad.
In his speech, Yong Mohd Salleh commended the effort of SMK TTDI Jaya teachers and students in making the big-scale event a success.
According to Azahar, the programme serves to call upon the students and teachers to actively participate in activities outside the classroom.
“I am thankful for the teachers who sacrificed their time and put their utmost effort in organising this festival. Our teachers have gone the extra mile in making sure every aspect of the programme is wellexecuted.
“This festival will also give students the exposure of participating in an international event.
“Most of the activities involve the latest technology and trends such as news reporting via Instagram, cool coding, a short video contest and a Minecraft challenge which teenagers love to be a part of.
“We hope to be committed in continue organising this kind of programme in the forthcoming years with great confidence,” he said.
#MySchoolGoals International festival collaborates with more than 15 strategic partners including School Times, Microsoft Malaysia, McDonald’s Malaysia, Balai Seni Negara and a few higher education institutions such as Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa.
