AS part of its continuing efforts to push for the latest development in the food service industry, Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) has launched Go Green modules and a new initiative targeted at women entrepreneurs.

The latest efforts were introduced through Chefmanship Academy (CA) an initiative organised by UFS. CA is a one-stop centre for food operators to learn to raise the quality of food, service, efficiency and become better chefs with emphasis on smart entrepreneurship.

UFS Malaysia Managing Director Nusrat Perveen says the focus is on educating operators on food waste management and cost calculation, as well as to further improve the academy’s programme.

She adds that Go Green is in line with Unilever’s global sustainable living plan to improve health, well-being and hygiene habits in Malaysia. UFS will be launching its digital campaign next month on Facebook, to highlight the benefits of biodegradable food packaging in the long-term for food operators.

“Apart from Go Green, we are also working with Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia to provide training and funds for women who want to start their own business.”

She says that CA emphasises on smart entrepreneurship, and helps educate food operators on the need to offer quality food, service and efficiency. UFS’ first programme for this year is with Shah Alam City Council and involves 700 food operators who will do business at the annual Ramadan bazaar.

Nusrat says UFS is working with local councils and the private sectors to help women entrepreneurs understand the regulatory requirements better. The programme provides hands-on learning experiences on more than 100 topics, including enhancing cooking skills and business expertise.

“We also help enhance techniques and ways to improve operating a food business, especially with the growing cost of operations and ingredients.

“It is important that food operators do not compromise on food hygiene, especially at the Ramadan bazaars. This is to ensure that consumers are not inflicted with health problems when they buy food or eat out.”

Since its launch in 2013, CA’s activities have been held nationwide with the help of various local councils.
