WHENEVER the fasting month arrives, traders at Ramadan bazaars or food markets here will serve up a variety of food and drinks for their customers.

But Noramry Mohamad, 31, serves up

something different.

The Port Dickson District Office employee plays his flute at the bazaars around the district to collect donations for Yayasan Anak-Anak Yatim Daerah Port Dickson.

He has been doing this for the past four years.

“The people here know me as I have been playing my flute at Ramadan bazaars in the district and seeking Hari Raya Aidilfitri donations for orphans.

“In the past, I could collect donations for only 20 orphans. I hope to help at least 60 children this time,” he said here yesterday.

Noramry said he took turns to perform at various locations here, including the Batu 4 Ramadan Bazaar, Lukut and Taman Politeknik.

He added that the donations would be handed over during a ceremony a week before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. He said he was not doing this for fame, but to make use of his talent to help those in need.

“Hopefully, this will encourage people, especially musicians, to help the local community by using their talents,” said Noramry, who has also accepted invitations to perform at weddings.

He hopes to make performances on a bigger platform to help needy people, such as the Rohingya, and those in Syria and Palestine.

Also known as Amri Baik on Facebook, he is thankful that his family, especially his wife, are supportive of his charitable efforts.
