HEALTH issues have not dampened Goh Jin Wei’s spirit as she gears up for the Sudirman Cup challenge in Nanning, China.

The 19-year-old, who was forced to skip the Asia Championships (BAC) and the New Zealand Open last month, was finally seen going through the full drill yesterday at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (BAM).

Despite being far from her best, the two-time world junior champion is glad to get back on court.

“I was gasping for air, but it felt good. It was so much better than just going through the light stuff,” said the World No 25.

“I enjoy the tough drills we normally go through before a tournament. Surely I am not rushing but I can still cope.

“It’s all good and I definitely

feel better. There are still five more days for me to recover.

Malaysia will open their Sudirman Cup Group D campaign against 10-time champions China on Sunday before taking on India on May 21.

While it is good news that Jin Wei will be making the trip, it is still uncertain if the 2017 Sea Games gold medallist will feature in any of the ties.

Should national women’s singles coach Tey Seu Bock decide otherwise, the responsibility to earn a point for the team will be handed to World No 34 Soniia Cheah.

Jin Wei has got no issues with that.

“I will not be disappointed nor will I blame myself for not being at my best. “Our priority is for Malaysia to do well. If I am not feeling too good, I wouldn’t want to play.

“This is also why I like playing in team events. It’s the team spirit that matters. Everyone is cheering for and motivating each other, unlike regular Open tournaments.

“All I can say is I am not carrying any injury, and I am good to go for the Sudirman Cup,” said Jin Wei, who had earlier suffered from a hamstring injury.

The national team will leave for China tomorrow.

“If I am not feeling too good, I wouldn’t want to play.”
