THE three big names in the M-League: Ronaldo, Sergio Aguero and Careca got off to a happy start with their new teams over the weekend.

Ronaldo and Careca, signed by Perak in the mid-season transfer window, have proved to be an instant hit for the Malaysia Cup champions.

The two Brazilians sparkled in their debut for the Bos Gaurus with Ronaldo grabbing two goals in the 2-1 win over Perak SEDC in the FA Cup second leg in Ipoh on Saturday. Careca stamped his mark in midfield.

On the same evening, Argentine Sergio Aguero also sizzled in his debut for Penang when he notched a brace in the 4-1 win against Kelantan in a Premier League match at the City Stadium.

Aguero, who said he was glad that he made the right decision to join Penang, pointed out that he

has settled in well with his teammates and the coaching staff.

“I am really happy, scoring two goals in my first match for Penang just after two weeks with them. Thanks to our good teamwork.”

Aguero said he is determined to help the Panthers, now eighth in the table, finish in the top three.

The 25-year-old, who hails from La Rioja, Argentina, is no newcomer to Malaysia. He played for Melaka for two years before going back to his country.

After a two-year absence from the M-League, the Argentine returned to Malaysia in November last year and saw action for Selangor United in the first half of the 2019 season.

In the mid-season transfer window (May 2-29), Aguero impressed Penang to earn a contract till the end of the season.

When asked about the similarities between him and Manchester City's Sergio Aguero, the ‘Penang Aguero’ said when he first came to Malaysia five years ago, he was always mistaken for his namesake.

“Malaysian football fans not only mistook me for the other Aguero but were also confused, making me wonder if they understood my explanation,” said Aguero.

“I always told them that the other Aguero is in England, and I am here in Malaysia. So, how could I be him and he be me?

The 1.75m striker said his immediate target is to help Penang collect three points against JDT ll in an away match on Saturday at Pasir Gudang.

Penang chief coach Manzoor Azwira Abdul Wahid said he was happy with Aguero’s two-goal performance but was quick to add that it was still early days.

“His contribution was valuable and added the extra touch to the team.”
