DR HAFIZAM ENACTS HOW ADIB WAS INJURED
Forensic specialist shows how fireman sustained injuries while exiting vehicle
THE inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim yesterday started with a demonstration on how the incident had inflicted injuries on the fireman.
The 24th witness of the inquest, Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) forensic specialist Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi, enacted his theory that Adib had sustained injuries while exiting the EMRS vehicle in a hurry, before coroner Rofiah Mohamad.
The demonstration was held at the Shah Alam Court Complex parking area at 10.30am.
A reenactment of an EMRS van brought to the court and reversing at 17km per hour was demonstrated before Rofiah.
The session ended about 1½ hours later.
Present were deputy public prosecutor Faten Hadini Khairuddin, who is the conducting officer in the inquest; counsel Syazlin Mansor, who is representing the Housing and Local Government Ministry; Fire Department personnel, and several officials.
Previously, Dr Hafizam suggested that Adib was not dragged out from the EMRS vehicle.
He said it was likely Adib had sustained his injuries while exiting the EMRS vehicle in hurry.
However, 29th witness Professor Dr Shahrom Abdul Wahid, retired pathologist from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital, who was present at the demonstration, had suggested that Adib was pulled out from the EMRS vehicle during a riot outside the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya on Nov 27.
He also suggested that Adib had been attacked by a mob, which led to him having seven broken ribs.
It was claimed that Adib, 24, died from severe injuries sustained after he was allegedly assaulted by rioters at the temple.
He was part of an emergency response team dispatched to the scene to douse a vehicle that had been torched.
Despite showing signs of recovery while being treated at the National Heart Institute, Adib died on Dec 17.
