State Urban Wellbeing Committee, Local Government House And New Village chairman Teo Kok Seong said the campaign, which kicked off on Monday, involved bazaars in Paroi and Bandar Baru Nilai here.

“The campaign will be held until May 28, with the collaboration of volunteers from the Raja Melewar Teachers’ Training Institute, Kechara Soup Kitchen, Ikram Malaysia Organisation, Gema Malaysia Youth Organisation and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Asnaf Setia Kasih.

“In Bandar Baru Nilai, the food collected was distributed to mosques for moreh (supper) while the food donated by bazaar operators in Paroi was delivered to asnaf (hardcore poor), single mothers and orphans,” he said after distributing bubur lambuk at the Batu Kikir Ramadan bazaar here.

Present were Jempol Municipal Council president Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, Jempol district officer Masmidyawan Yahya and state SWCorp director Nordin Amat.

Teo, who is Bahau assemblyman, said the campaign was the best way to save food from ending in landfills.

He said the programme also helped provide food for the needy.

“SWCorp has carried out programmes to educate the public about food wastage, including the ‘Value Food No Waste’ campaign, which involves hotels and restaurants, and the ‘Leftover Food’ campaign, which promotes the habit of creating new recipes from leftover food.”
