KTMB launches MyRailtime mobile app

-

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) launched its mobile application MyRailtime yesterday, giving commuters real-time location updates for its train services in the central region.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the service was made possible due to global positioning system devices installed on all trains.

It will monitor the locations of KTM Komuter trains along the Sungai GadutBatu Caves and Port Klang-Tanjung Malim routes, as well as the express train service between KL Sentral and Subang Airport Skypark.

He said the app was to address complaints of commuters, who often faced delays with the KTM Komuter service due to upgrading works in the Klang Valley.

“MyRailtime can be downloaded into a smartphone. It allows travellers to obtain real-time information about the estimated arrival times of commuter trains at their respective stations,” he said after launching the app here.

Loke said there was a 45-minute interval between each KTM Komuter train because the frequency of trains had been reduced due to upgrading works of the rail network around the Klang Valley.

He said the first phase of the upgrading works began two years ago and would be completed by next year. The second phase would subsequently begin and would take another four to five years to complete.

KTMB chief executive officer Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said since upgrading works began on KTM Komuter networks in the Klang Valley, the frequency of the service was reduced from 240 trips per day to 98 trips per day.

Frequent train traveller Nurain Syahirah Misron, 24, said MyRailtime provided information on train delays.

S.K. Chen, 65, praised the app as it helped travellers plan their journeys better.

“I hope KTMB will improve other aspects of its service. Many stations are dark as there are no lights. Some have faulty fans on their platforms.”
