‘DAP TO LET COPS FINISH PROBE FIRST’
Party will decide on division leader’s alleged threat to district police chief after that, says Nga
DAP will let the police complete their investigation before deciding on the next move after one of its division leaders was detained on Sunday for allegedly threatening a district police chief.
DAP deputy secretary-general Nga Kor Ming said the party would let the police do the necessary and complete their probe.
“I do not have much details about it (the incident). Give space to the police to conduct their investigation. Once they have completed their probe and made a decision, then the party will take appropriate action,” he said after visiting the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) with China’s chargé d’affaires to Malaysia, Chen Chen, in Gebeng here yesterday.
On Sunday, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Zakaria Ahmad confirmed that Jerantut DAP chief Loo Why Leong had been picked up for questioning after allegedly sending a threatening
message via WhatsApp to Jerantut police chief Superintendent Mazlan Hassan on May 16.
Zakaria said police seized Loo’s mobile phone before releasing him on bail.
It is believed that the threat was sent to the district police chief following a crackdown on the sale of unlicensed liquor and cigarettes by another DAP member in the district.
Pahang DAP secretary Lee Chin Chen said based on an earlier statement by Loo, he had denied any involvement in threatening the district police chief.
“We have been unable to contact Loo since Sunday evening and are leaving it in the hands of the police. To be fair to both parties, we hope the public will refrain from speculating on the case until investigations are completed.
“No one is above the law and those who break the law should be punished. Malaysia is a country which upholds the rule of law, where one must not use his identity or any other means to threaten others,” he said yesterday.
Lee said the state DAP leadership committee would discuss the matter concerning Loo in its next meeting.
