KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank Islamic Bhd took home five awards from the Global Private Banking Innovation Awards last week, including the Outstanding Global Islamic Banker of the Year for its chief executive officer Datuk Mohamed Rafique Merican.

The Digital Banker hosted the awards ceremony on Thursday night in Singapore to recognise the very best-in-class institutions and industry professionals.

The four other awards won by Maybank Islamic are the Best Private Bank for Islamic Services, Best Provider of Shariah-Compliant

Fund, Best Provider of ShariahCompliant Investments and Sukuk Deal of the Year.

“The award for the Best Private Bank for Islamic Services is a testament to Maybank Islamic’s excellence in private banking. We are honoured to receive all these awards. This is also the first time that we have won five international accolades at one time for private banking,” said Rafique.

“Wealth management services is an important business to Maybank Islamic and we will continue to improve and expand its services within the Islamic financial services industry.

“Our customers are important to us and in our mission to meet our customers’ discerning needs in and outside Malaysia, we will continue to develop more syariah-compliant investment solutions,” he said.

The Digital Banker said the winners were those that had offered more than rudimentary wealth advisory by embedding themselves into the client journey, namely private banks that were pioneering new standards in servicing the financial needs of the ultra-wealthy.
