Datuk remanded for four days

PUTRAJAYA: A former senior officer of a company has been remanded for four days, starting yesterday to assist in a probe over an alleged corruption involving the supply of armoured vehicle equipment to a defence agency.

The 56-year-old man with a “Datuk” title was brought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to the magistrate’s court here at about 10am yesterday.

He was detained on Tuesday night at the MACC headquarte­rs.

Assistant registrar Siti Roslizawat­i Mohd Zanin issued the remand order which ends on Saturday.

The graftbuste­rs are investigat­ing the case under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting gratificat­ion.

MACC deputy chief commission­er (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki was reported as saying “many” more people would be summoned over the case, which he described as in the early stages of investigat­ion.

So far, several high-ranking company executives, including a chief executive officer and chief financial officer had been remanded on allegation­s of graft in the defence contract worth RM17 million.

DRB-Hicom Bhd has subsequent­ly confirmed that MACC was investigat­ing its subsidiary, Defence Technologi­es Sdn Bhd (Deftech). The contract pertains to the supply of equipment for the Deftech AV8 Gempita and ACV-300 Adnan armoured fighting vehicles to a defence agency between 2014 and 2017.

On Monday, a 39-year-old company owner with the “Datuk Seri” title was remanded to facilitate investigat­ion.
