UNITED’S TICKETS SOLD OUT IN RECORD TIME

Supporters continue to provide backing despite another disappointing campaign

-

MANCHESTER United’s disastrous campaign does not appear to have put their fans off — with season tickets for the new year selling out in record time.

Following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho, United finished the year in a lowly sixth place, a staggering 32 points behind champions and rivals City.

They also missed out on a Champions League place with new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has a considerable rebuilding job on his hands, warning that a tilt for the title next season would be ‘miraculous’.

However, the club’s supporters continue to provide their backing, with the United declaring that they sold all 52,000 for 2019/20 in record time.

Elsewhere, the Premier League giants are continuing to monitor the situation with regards to surrounding away supporters at Old

Trafford with netting.

They brought mesh netting in for European fixtures following issues with objects, including pyrotechnics, being hurled onto disabled fans, many of whom are situated below the away support.

However, at a recent fixture with West Ham, a variety of objects were hurled into the disabled section, including cigarette lighters, plastic cups and a giant sausage.

This summer, Old Trafford will undergo a £3 million (RM16 million) facelift and United are planning on replacing every seat at the 75,000-venue in the next five years amid claims it has fallen behind the standards set by other stadia in the top flight.

Meanwhile, United fans have reacted furiously to the news that star man David de Gea has reportedly turned down the club’s final contract offer.

The Red Devils exercised an option in De Gea’s contract to extend his present deal until 2020 but talks over extending any further have ground to a halt.

And the Spanish goalkeeper has now made it clear that he will not be staying at Old Trafford beyond next season, according to recent reports.

De Gea was voted the Premier League’s best goalkeeper in five of the past seven seasons and was voted United’s player of the year for four straight seasons between 2014 and 2018.

After the news broke about the latest impasse in negotiations, fans did not hesitate to tweet their opinions.

@JuniorfergPaul wrote: “No doubt we owe him for this season, but like Fergie says, no player is bigger than the club. We have the best No.2 in the world, maybe he could be the best No.1.”

@Pineappple_King agreed, tweeting: “As a Man United fan I will be sad to see him eventually go but also no point having a player in your team who doesn’t want to be there just sell him and get a replacement player who does want to be there.”

Those sentiments were not shared by @philstandish though. He wrote: “We have Deano (Henderson).. but De Gea leaving would not be good.. Unless he no longer wants to play for the club.. We shouldn’t be begging players to stay if true.”

The news has now put pressure on United to cash in on De Gea this summer, rather than lose him on a free in a year.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are ready to meet De Gea’s market value of £350,000-a-week and are now considering a £60 million bid in the current window.
