2 cleaners claim trial to committing mischief by fire

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two truck tyre cleaners allegedly involved in a rampage at the house of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) enforcement chief, 40, were charged with committing mischief by fire.

Muhammad Yasifullah Abdul Gani, 30, and Muhammad Asyraf Che Khalid, 23, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Selayang Sessions Court judge Rasyihah Ghazali here yesterday.

According to the charge, the duo, together with another person at large, committed the offence with intention to cause damage to MPS enforcement chief Nor Hayati Ahmad’s two cars, which resulted in a RM500 loss.

The offence was allegedly committed at the victim’s house in Taman Muhibbah, Rawang at 12.44am on May 13.

The charge, under Section 435 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment of 14 years and fine, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Ain Shafie offered RM10,000 bail to each accused.

Counsel Samreer Singh, who represented Yasifullah, and counsel Azman Abdullah, who represented Asyraf, pleaded for a minimum bail to be imposed on their clients as both the accused were supporting their family members with a RM1,600 income per month.

The court allowed the duo RM8,000 bail with one surety each and ordered them to report to the nearest police station on the first day of each month.

The duo were ordered not to make any contact or disturb the victim and witnesses until the disposal of the case. Their case will be up for mention on June 25.

It was reported that a group of men recently went on a rampage at Nor Hayati’s house.

They splashed red paint on two of her cars and lit firecrackers that were placed in a can of paint filled with nails, iron pieces and paper shreds.

Nor Hayati confirmed that she received threats from unknown individuals on May 13, the second such incident after the first one on April 28.
