Man in stray dog video to be charged
The man who confronted the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) officers for the rough handling of a stray dog will be charged at the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court today.
Lawyers for Animal Rights (LAR), in a statement yesterday said Koh Tat Meng, 47, is expected to be charged with obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties.
“Our client was informed by the police that he will be charged tomorrow at 9am for alleged contravention of Section 186 of the Penal Code.
“We will protest at the court building against the injustice to Koh. He was only pleading with the MPSJ officers to show mercy in dealing with the dog, known as Bruno Puchong.”
LAR also criticised the police for alleged selective prosecution in investigating the incident.
“Those responsible for the brutal attack on Bruno Puchong have yet to be investigated or charged.
“Koh lodged a report against the MPSJ officers and the police have failed to call Koh in to provide his statement. It is implied in this circumstance that the police are refusing to investigate the officers.”
The issue went viral after a four-minute video showed MPSJ officers attempting to capture a dog under a car while a man tried to intervene and a woman recorded the incident.
State Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han has apologised over the abusive conduct of the MPSJ staff.
