Students sell eggs to pay varsity fees

-

GUA MUSANG: Three university students came together to sell chicken eggs so they could pay their tuition fees this coming December.

Coming from poor families, the trio decided to venture into the business as they did not want to burden their parents who were affected by the Movement Control Order, which was enforced to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

Final year political science student Khairul Azhar Kamaruzaman said with a capital of RM3,000, they started the eggselling business about a week ago by renting a shop at Taman Kesedar Putra here.

The 24-year-old said his business partners, Alya Nabihah Mat Soh, 22, and Muhamad Auswadey Muhamad Ghazali, 24, wanted to use the opportunity to earn money to pay for their tuition fees.

“Once we start earning money to pay our study fees, we can help to ease our parents’ financial burden,” said Khairul, who resides at Kampung Limau Kasturi.

Besides selling chicken eggs, he continued his education via online classes with his lecturers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Bestari Universiti College student Alya Nabihah, who is pursuing a culinary arts diploma course, said there was good demand for chicken eggs and they could sell about 30,000 eggs within three or four days.

“We get our egg supply from Kuala Lumpur. These eggs must be processed and arranged according to their grades.

“Alhamdulillah, the demand has been promising from retailers and bakers because our prices are a bit cheaper.”
