A VIRUS VACCINE OUR ONLY OPTION
COVID-19 greatly weakens the victim’s immunity and causes multi-organ failure. New studies have shown that this virus also attacks the testicles of young males and may trigger heart attacks in young people.
Patients who have recovered are not immune and can be infected again while some patients have reported having symptoms for three months. Many doctors and health officials are at a loss and do not know what to expect next.
This virus with its vicious spikes is far more infectious and lethal than the H1N1 virus of the Spanish Flu that killed more than 50 to 100 million people and infected more than one third of humanity (500 million people).
It was tragic that a vaccine could not be found then and the survivors had to suffer and develop herd immunity at a deadly human cost.
The pandemic situation in our country seems to be under control due to the good work of government officials. But with our porous borders and with millions of migrant workers and most citizens not tested yet, it is possible that many out there could be infected.
One of the most dangerous aspects of Covid-19 is that, unlike SARS or MERS, many of the infected show little or no sign of the symptoms (pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic). So the actual situation may not be made known until the entire population is tested.
United States Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has just made a shocking admission that for every infected person detected in the US, there are at least 10 more infected people who are undetected, meaning as many as 25 million people in the US are infected today.
Beijing had zero cases for 56 days until there was one new case on June 10 and by June 14, they had 51 new cases.
New Zealand with five million people, after 24 days of zero cases, reported two new cases on June 17. Stop kidding ourselves about having and sustaining zero cases until a vaccine is found or after we have developed herd immunity at a huge cost.
Covid-19 cannot be compared with a small outbreak like SARS in 2002/2003, which only infected 8,098 people and killed 774 people. This novel coronavirus, which is still mutating to be worse, is super efficient in harming, infecting and hiding from detection.
The World Health Organisation announced that millions could die in the second wave like with the Spanish Flu, which might have started already with the latest surge of infections around the world nearing the 10 million mark.
The only way to end this is to find a workable and accessible vaccine.
For a still largely unautomated and undigitised “brick & mortar” economy like ours, measures such as social distancing, wearing of face mask and frequent use of hand sanitisers, which also have negative and harmful side effects, are not sustainable on a long-term basis.
Face mask overuse can cause a lack of oxygen and too much carbon dioxide which can be harmful. Too much usage of hand sanitisers can cause skin problems. Poor, hungry and unemployed people are not going to bother complying with the safety measures if the pandemic persists and we can expect much social unrest such as riots.
