NSAs told to include Covid-19 in their plans

-

THE Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) want all national sports associations (NSAs) to plan with the Covid-19 in mind.

OCM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria said NSAs must brace themselves for tough times ahead as the coronavirus continues to plague the world.

After chairing an OCM board meeting yesterday, Norza said: “We hope that when NSAs have their AGMs, they will have a section that discusses their way forward with Covid-19.

“It’s going to be tough, because there may not be any tournaments this year, sponsors will cut back and so they will need to plan.

“They will need to think about the Olympics and 2021,” said Norza after announcing that RM300,000 of the OCM Covid-19 relief fund has been distributed to 23 ordinary members and seven associate members.

Norza added: “We have distributed the funds and though it may not be much, it would help the NSAs in a little way, especially when there are no activities or programmes.

“The Sports Ministry has also announced a RM10 million relief fund to help the NSAs in these challenging times.

“The NSAs must plan carefully, they need to be selective, and think about the future.”

Norza also disclosed that the Southeast Asia Games Federation (SEAGF) meeting for the 2021 Vietnam Games will be held virtually on July 22-23.

“The host has made it clear that they will focus on Olympic sports, so let’s see what happens during the meeting, what the host has to say before we decide on the sports,” said Norza.
