Penang DAP defends undersea tunnel project
GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP has defended the controversial Penang undersea tunnel project amid a relaunching of investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the matter.
In a statement, the state party listed out five fact checks pertaining to the long-delayed multi-billion ringgit project.
Firstly, it said the project is being carried out through an open tender in line with the state government’s CAT principle of competency, accountability and transparency.
Next, the statement said that the MACC had released a letter in November 2018 to the company involved in the project, Zenith Construction), to confirm that no abuse of power or corrupt practices had taken place.
Thirdly, it said the MACC had lodged a police report against controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who posted fake documents with unfounded allegations on the case.
Penang DAP also said former chief minister Lim Guan Eng won a defamation suit against Raja Petra related to the same blog post.
Finally, the state DAP defended the project by claiming that it would boost the state's development, especially in the northern part of the mainland.
The post shared on its Facebook page received mixed reactions.
