Orders pouring in for ‘Cikgu Wei’ durians

KUALA NERUS: A durian orchard owner, 74, from Kampung Lingai, Tepoh, here has been receiving a steady demand for a special variety of the king of fruits which he has been cultivatin­g. Ismail Tawang, or Cikgu Wei, is the cultivator of a durian which he named after the initials of his nickname, C.W. He said he had been receiving positive feedback from his customers over the variant every year. “Although it is not yet the harvesting season, I have been receiving orders for it from my customers.” He said the C.W. durian tree was cultivated by using a technique with durian kampung seeds. He added that it could yield up to 300 fruits. “I expect the earliest harvest will be in September,” he said, adding that the durians were sold at RM40 per kg.
