Monkeys causing havoc at Port Dickson village

-

PORT DICKSON: A troop of 30 to 40 wild monkeys, including the dusky leaf species (lutung), have been entering homes and disturbing people in Kampung Teluk in Pasir Panjang. Norihan Salleh, 39, said the primates would go into the village in the morning and evening daily, and often took food. “If there is an opening (in the house), the monkeys would enter and ransack for food. We fear for our children’s safety as they chase anyone indoors. We are at our wits’ end and do not know what we can do to stop this problem. I hope the Wildlife and National Parks Department will help us.” Residents were also baffled as the monkeys would run away upon seeing men, but tend to terrorise women and children.
