620 UNDER QUARANTINE YET TO GO FOR 2ND TEST
Police to take action if they don’t undergo second Covid-19 screening, says Ismail Sabri
ATOTAL of 620 people who were placed under home quarantine have yet to undergo their second Covid-19 screening.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the authorities were seeking the cooperation of the individuals to do so, and urged them to contact the Health Ministry for further information.
“Police will take action if they fail to do so,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Ismail Sabri said police conducted 1,063 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance checks on those undergoing home quarantine and found blanket compliance by all involved.
He said the Health Ministry had conducted Covid-19 screenings on 8,535 people who arrived via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) between June 10 and Wednesday.
He said of the total, 8,498 people tested negative for the virus and were ordered to undergo mandatory home quarantine, while 37 others tested positive for the virus and were sent to hospital for treatment.
A total of 724 Malaysians returned to the country and arrived at KLIA and klia2 on July 1, of which 723 were ordered to undergo mandatory home quarantine and one was sent to the hospital, he said.
He said the Malaysians had returned from the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Brunei.
Meanwhile, 71 people were nabbed and issued compounds by the police for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order SOP on Wednesday.
Of the total, 29 were remanded and 42 others were issued compounds for various offences, including indulging in karaoke session or activities at family entertainment centres and night clubs, attending activities that hindered social distancing, and activities which were against the SOP.
On Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri said police had mounted 66 roadblocks and inspected 41,775 vehicles in a bid to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country, especially through illegal routes.
“A total of 16 foreigners have been arrested in the operation for immigration offences.”
Op Benteng involves the Armed Forces, police, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Malaysian Border Security Agency.
Ismail Sabri said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had also conducted 1,885 RMCO SOP compliance checks nationwide.
He said 1,870 premises were found to have complied with the SOP and 15 others had been advised to comply.
He said the ministry’s staff on Wednesday conducted checks on 25 essential items at 815 business premises, involving 612 retailers, 173 wholesalers and 30 manufacturers.
“The government urges businesses and public to always exercise self-discipline, including social distancing and good personal hygiene, especially during sale-and-purchase activities throughout the RMCO.”
