Religious schools can resume from July 15

KUALA LUMPUR: All religious schools registered with the Education Ministry and state authoritie­s have been allowed to resume operations starting July 15.

However, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said, religious schools that are not registered would have to refer to the state authoritie­s before resuming operations.

“All will have to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Education Ministry so that we can end the Covid-19 chain of infection.

“Religious schools registered with the Education Ministry can immediatel­y resume operations, but if those that are not registered have to send an applicatio­n to the state government­s,” he said at a press conference after visiting the Federal Territory Syariah Court here yesterday.

Yesterday, Senior Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said students in Forms 1 to 4 and remove classes would return to school starting July 15.

Radzi said students in Years 1 to 4 pupils will return the following week.

Zulkifli said he would provide training to Federal Territory Syariah Court officers and staff in accordance with the new normal to increase their competency.

“The syariah court must also be more efficient and improvemen­ts will be made to its Zero Outstandin­g Case system.”

Earlier, Zulkifli spent more than two hours observing the operations at the Federal Territory Syariah Court.
