12MP to be reviewed following impact of Covid-19 pandemic

-

The 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), scheduled to be tabled on Aug 6, has been postponed to January next year to enable the government to undertake a review following the impact on the global economy brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the date for the tabling of 12MP had not been fixed yet.

“The changes due to Covid-19 are a certainty. We must take into account the way we work. The economic landscape has also changed drastically, so these need to be given attention. That’s why the 12MP must be relooked,” he said at the launch of digital payment and MyPay e-wallet here yesterday.

The Economic Planning Unit would revamp the 12MP by taking into account the economic conditions in ensuring the economic growth was on a development track that was sustainable and inclusive, he added.

On the MyPay e-wallet, Mustapa welcomed the initative as it would increase the use of e-wallet in Malaysia. He said Malaysians were adapting to the new normal, which was driving innovation in the digital segment.

Mustapa hoped for better cooperation between the public and private sectors in the information and communications technology sector considering that the government’s digital agenda also aimed at empowering users, especially those in the rural areas and town fringes.

The MyPay e-wallet is a collaboration between DAPAT Vista (M) Sdn Bhd, the National Higher Education Corporation Fund (PTPTN), Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd and Fass Payment Solutions Sdn Bhd. The tie-up aims to broaden the use of MyPay through online payment services for PTPTN (loans and investments), digital financing via cooperation with Bank Islam and integration with a secure e-wallet.
