FGV UNVEILS NEW PROJECT TO TRANSFORM ESTATES, MILLS
Model Plantation Concept aims to standardise and sustain best practices in ops
FGV Holdings Bhd will be adopting the new Model Plantation Concept (MPC) project at all of its oil palm estates and mills.
MPC is a systematic initiative under FGV’s transformation agenda to strengthen, standardise and sustain best practices in plantation and manufacturing practices.
FGV said its implementation has led to a new overall standard operating procedure for operation and agriculture, processing and manufacturing practices.
It said the pilot project began last year at the Tembangau 6 estate in Pahang and Besout oil palm mill in Perak, followed by the Maokil 07 estate and Maokil oil palm mill in Johor.
The MPC project has shown success, demonstrated by several certifications received by the two estates and two mills.
They include the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil Certification, Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil Certification and the QE/5S Quality Environmental Practice Malaysia Productivity Corporation.
FGV group chief executive officer Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan said one of FGV’s challenges was the diversity of its 197 estates and 68 mills in terms of size, operating cost, facilities and manpower capabilities.
“Through the MPC project, optimum standardisation can be achieved, resulting in increased productivity and cost reduction,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Citing an example, he said the Maokil oil palm mill, which had been operating for 29 years, had shown increased productivity with an oil extraction rate of 20.74 per cent last year from 19.86 per cent in 2018.
FGV was confident that the MPC project would be the catalyst for the transformation of its business plan, following the success of Maokil mill.
“FGV will next implement the MPC project in phases at the Palong 8 rubber plant in Negri Sembilan, Delima Oils Products refinery in Johor, and Embara Budi oil palm mill and Sahabat 11 estate in Sabah,” he said.
