Nightlifers are top violators of RMCO
KUALA LUMPUR: Pub and nightclub crawlers were the top violators of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) arrested by the police on Saturday.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday said 522 people were arrested on Saturday, 342 of which were issued compounds and the rest remanded.
Their offences include participating in activities at pubs and nightclubs (363), failure to maintain physical distancing (81), not wearing a face mask (36), leaving home without valid reasons in Enhanced MCO areas (17), failure to keep visitors’ log (12), leaving Enhanced MCO areas without valid reason (one), operating without permission (five) and undocumented immigrants (seven).
He said the task force on standard operating procedures compliance led by the police conducted 52,947 checks on Saturday.
Premises inspected included 3,475 supermarkets, 4,210 restaurants, 1,189 stalls, 1,204 factories, 3,210 banks and 680 government offices.
Also checked were 1,021 land, 195 water and 281 air transport terminals.
Ismail Sabri said 180 undocumented immigrants, five smugglers and one boat skipper were detained during Op Benteng on Saturday.
He said the authorities also seized five land vehicles.
The arrests were made at 89 roadblocks set up nationwide by the authorities, involving the police (67 roadblocks), Malaysian Border Security Agency (10) and armed forces (12), to prevent undocumented immigrants from entering the country, especially via rat lanes or illegal routes.
On the mandatory quarantine, Ismail Sabri said between July 24 and Sept 17, 31,227 individuals had entered Malaysia via various entry points.
They were taken to undergo quarantine at 68 hotels and eight other premises, including public training institutes and private higher education institutions, in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Selangor, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Kelantan, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Labuan and Sabah.
“Of the total, 8,673 individuals are undergoing the 14-day mandatory quarantine, while 71 have been taken to hospital for treatment. A total of 22,483 individuals have been discharged and allowed to return home.”
The travellers arrived from 32 countries: the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Nepal, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Bangladesh, Taiwan, China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
