Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre to be used as vaccination hub
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre will be used as a vaccination centre for the ongoing National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) until February next year.
In a statement, Sunway Group said the 80,000 sq ft convention centre opened its doors on March 10 and would be used for vaccinations involving at least 1.8 million people, starting with frontline workers followed by residents in the Petaling district over the next 11 months.
The centre, it said, would conduct vaccinations for healthcare workers in the government and private facilities as well as essential services.
Remaining healthcare workers, essential workers and enforcers as well as senior citizens and high-risk groups will be from April to August, with vaccinations for the community at large from August to February next year.
“Up to March 12, 1,400 frontline workers have been vaccinated. The vaccination is carried out by the Petaling health district office with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures, in small groups, with adequate social distancing. Free parking is provided for those coming to get vaccinated over the next 11 months,” the statement read.
Sunway Group deputy executive chairman Tan Sri Razman M. Hashim said Sunway supported the 80 per cent herd immunity target in Malaysia, which would save lives and livelihoods as well as help the country regain economic sustainability.
Since the start of the pandemic last year, Sunway Group has committed more than RM50 million, including more than RM12 million to support government healthcare institutions and professionals; RM20 million to provide retailers rent-free days during the MCO 1.0 period; and supporting the NIP.
The Petaling District Disaster Management Committee said use of the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as a vaccination centre was instrumental to help the nation achieve the goal of 80 per cent herd immunity in Malaysia.
“The centre is the ideal size, strategically located, and the infrastructure supports our needs to ensure the smooth rollout of the vaccinations.”
