Registration issue at Perak DAP meeting

-

The 19th Perak DAP Convention yesterday was marred after factions led by M. Kulasegaran and Thomas Su Keong Siong claimed the election process was unfair.

Su, who is also Kampar member of parliament, claimed that the registration was supposed to close at 10am.

However, after the time was up, the organiser called on branches which had yet to register to do so in order to vote.

He accused the election committee of reaching out only to delegates from factions associated with Nga Kor Ming and adviser Ngeh Koo Ham, who had yet to register to vote.

“According to the letter, registration was opened from 8.30am to 10am.

“However, after 10am, the organiser was still contacting those who had yet to register.

“They (the organiser) knew there were branches that had yet to register and they were calling them to do so. It is unfair.

“Either they need to stop it (calling the branches) or allow us to call our branches too.

“Don’t take advantage… the election must be fair.

“They have the attendance list, which means they know that there are some branches that are not here yet.

“If they can call their supporters, I can call on mine too. Let’s

have the same information (the list),” he said.

Another group from the same faction outside the hall then started shouting against Nga.

A total of 2,135 delegates from 309 party branches throughout the state were expected to cast their votes in the party’s triennial polls yesterday at the Ipoh Convention

Centre, which coincides with the state’s party convention.

Up to 10am, a total of 2,175 delegates had registered.
