BOOM TIME SEEN FOR LOGISTICS, E-COMMERCE

Businesses going digital, people shifting to online buying, says EasyParcel CEO

- KUALA LUMPUR

MALAYSIA’S logistics and e-commerce industries can expect a bigger growth this year with consumer behaviour shifting to online buying, according to EasyParcel co-founder and chief executive officer Clarence Leong.

He said more businesses were now going digital.

“Today, businesses have an online presence and in the future, a brick-and-mortar store may just be a sec- ondary option.

“For the logistics and e-commerce industries, the outlook for this year is bigger growth,” he told the New Straits Times.

Leong said more courier service providers were now available since the launch of EasyParcel in 2014.

“I anticipate that this trend will continue this year.”

He said as its expansion plans were put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, EasyParcel took the opportunity to focus on current markets and improve its services in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

“As the backbone of the industry, we will continuously ensure ‘Delivery Made Easy’ by being agile where customers' needs are concerned, creating values and growing together with them during these trying times.”

Leong said last year had been challenging and unpredictable for EasyParcel where things changed drastically, such as customers going digital.

“As a courier service platform, it is important for us to move fast to ensure that we are up to the standard in supporting our customers, adapting to change, moving team allocations, improving tech infrastructure and launching creative solutions in a short period of time.”

Citing examples, he said its paperless shipping label, PgeonMart, was launched within a week while its delivery service, PgeonFlex, currently supported a few hundred freelance drivers who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

“This, in turn, makes us more solid as whole as we step up the game physically and mentally to support our courier service partners, small and medium enterprises and the ecosystem,” he added.
