No cooperation with PKR, says Umno info chief

-

KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no cooperation between PKR and Umno, despite hints by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that discussions on a political cooperation between the two parties have taken place.

Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan said the policy decision from the 2019 Umno General Assembly in rejecting any cooperation with PKR and DAP still stood

Though Umno has rejected a cooperation pact with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), this does not mean that the party must cooperate or work together with others.

“If Anwar is still hinting and suggesting that there are discussions on a political cooperation with Umno, that is his right to speak.

“Just like how all this while he has not stopped saying that he has the majority of support in Parliament.

“We do not have to dance to the tune of others. Instead, we need to focus completely on internally strengthening our own party while working hard towards winning over the people’s trust and confidence,” he said via a Facebook posting yesterday.

Shahril said the policy decision from the party’s 2019 general assembly still stood, and that Umno leaders had repeatedly said there would be no cooperation with either PKR or DAP.

“The party’s objective is naturally to win the support of the people with a vision that is better than our rivals.

“Without the support of the people, Umno would not be able to have a dominant position and role as hoped for by the party’s supporters and members who hold firm to history and Umno’s potential to spearheading the fight to uphold religion, race and country,” he said.
