Selangor heading for another thrashing by JDT?

-

Darul Ta'zim (JDT) will be out to inflict more misery on a struggling Selangor in a Super League match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium today.

The Red Giants, hobbled by injuries to key players, have their backs against the wall, after collecting only four points from their three opening matches.

At the other end, Super League champions JDT have collected maximum points from three matches, scoring eight goals.

And Selangor still carry the wounds of their 6-1 thrashing by the Southern Tigers in their previous league meeting last year.

JDT’s Mexican coach Benjamin Mora, who is looking to extending his team’s 100 per cent record at home, hopes wonder kid Arif Aiman Hanapi will shine again.

Arif holds the record of being the youngest Super League goal scorer following his strike in the 4-0 rout of UiTM last week.

Arif was 18 years and 10 months old when he broke the previous record held by Hadin Azman, who was 18 years and 11 months old in 2013 when he scored.

“I have been talking to Arif a lot to get his confidence high. He has the talent, the skill and the age but most important, he knows what he needs to do on the pitch.

“He’s very fast and knew what he needed to do when he replaced Safawi.

“It’s good to be able to rely on an 18-year-old to help us score goals.

“We will see who will be 100 per cent fit to play against a good team like Selangor.

“We are very confident and comfortable playing at our home. Our goal is always the same, which is to win.”

Mora added that the abundance of talent in JDT has enabled him to rotate their players for matches.

“We have Nazmi (Faiz Mansor), (Mohamadou) Sumareh, Ramadhan (Saifullah Usman) and Akhyar (Rashid), I don’t know who I’m going to play,” quipped Mora.

“I’m lucky that we have these players. Anyone who we put in will get the job done.”

Another team on a three-match winning run are Terengganu who host Melaka at the Sultan Mizan Stadium today.

Melaka’s Montenegrin striker Stefan Nikolic will undergo a late fitness test before the match. He missed the Mousedeer’s last three matches due to injury.

Although the Turtles are expected to beat Melaka, Terengganu coach Nafuzi Zain has tempered fans’ expectation.

“We need to be consistent first, and it has to be done game by game. By end of August, if we are still at the top, then that’s good.

“We still have plenty of room to improve but we are showing progress especially in defending.

“Against Perak we kept a clean sheet but I believe we can be better against Melaka,” added Nafuzi.
