1,219 NEW CASES, 2 DEATHS REPORTED

Daily new Covid-19 infections continue to hover below 1,500 for fifth consecutiv­e day

THE country’s daily new Covid-19 infections continued to hover below the 1,500 mark for five straight days with 1,219 new cases recorded yesterday, bringing the tally to 310,958.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were currently 15,075 active cases.

He said 1,212 of these new cases were infected locally involving 769 Malaysians and 443 foreigners, while seven others were imported cases.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases at 499 (40.9 per cent).

Of the total, he said, 406 were detected from clusters and Covid-19 close contact tracing,

followed by Sarawak (225 cases or 18.5 per cent) and Johor (169 cases or 13.9 per cent).

“There are 154 patients being treated at the Intensive Care Units (ICU), with 64 of them on ventilator support,” he said in a

statement yesterday.

“Meanwhile, there are 1,346 new recoveries reported today (yesterday), raising the number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19 to 310,958 or 95 per cent,” he said.

He said two deaths (both Malaysians) were reported, bringing the death toll to 1,220 (0.37 per cent).

On clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said 12 more Covid-19 new clusters had been detected yesterday, with eight of them linked to workplaces.

He said these new clusters had pushed the total number of clusters to 1,267.

The new clusters are the Subang Dua (Selangor), Jalan Lada Sulah (Selangor), Meranti Jaya (Selangor), Jalan Merpati (Sarawak), Kayu Gading (Johor), Jalan Perdana (Negri Sembilan), Long Yunus (Kelantan), Banggol Lepah (Kelantan), Jalan Hang Tuah (Johor), Taman Ria Enam (Sabah), Tembok Muhasabah (Johor) and Andromeda (Johor).

“There are currently 429 active clusters with 58 of them reporting new cases today (yesterday), mostly from the Subang Dua cluster (146 cases), the Jalan Setia Jaya cluster (57) and the Kompleks Perabut cluster (43),” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He also said 11 Covid-19 clusters came to an end yesterday — Jalan DC, Ladang Pekan, Dedap, Jalan Uda Utama, Jalan Harun, Jalan Cheras constructi­on site, Persiaran Subang, Jalan Kasturi, Senai Murni Empat, Jalan Lazuardi and Industri Wawasan.

Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 838 Covid-19 clusters had ended so far.
