Delivery rush set to push vehicle sales this month, says MAA

-

New vehicle sales should keep the growth momentum this month after a solid performance in February.

Total sales rose to 42,784 units last month, up 30 per cent from January’s 32,829 units, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Year-on-year, the sales was 4.13 per cent higher than the 41,088 units recorded in February last year, the MAA said in its monthly sales and production statement yesterday.

The MAA said the higher sales were on the back of improved traffic to showrooms after the lifting of the Movement Control Order in certain states.

“The sales volume this month is likely to be higher than February

due to the rush for deliveries by companies with financial year ending on March 31. Resumption of the Road Transport Department’s full services for all vehicle transactions will also help boost sales this month.”

The MAA noted that sales of passenger vehicles increased 1.5 per cent year-on-year to 37,923 units last month from 37,359 units a year ago. Commercial vehicle sales jumped 30.4 per cent to 4,861 units last month from 3,729 units a year ago.

Year-to-date, sales of new vehicles dropped 10 per cent to 75,613 units from 84,030 units a year ago.

Meanwhile, production of new vehicles last month increased 12 per cent to 45,199 units from 40,371 units a year ago.

The production of passenger vehicles for the month rose nine per cent year-on-year to 41,301 units from 37,893 units, while that of commercial vehicles increased 57.3 per cent to 3,898 units from 2,478 units. Year-todate, the production of passenger vehicles eased 1.1 per cent to 84,865 units from 85,787 units.
