MCO in Sabah district from today to April 4

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Keningau district in Sabah will be placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO) starting today till April 4.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the two-week MCO was to enable the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screenings, detect close contacts and control people’s movements after a report of a spike in Covid-19 cases there.

“The ministry said 42 positive cases were detected from targeted screenings conducted at Kampung Lingkudau, an area that is now under Conditional MCO.

“After carrying out a risk assessment with other agencies during the technical meeting and upon the Health Ministry’s recommendation, the government has agreed to implement the MCO at Keningau district from March 22 to April 4,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He also announced that the Enhanced MCO at Kampung Tanah Merah, Kota Marudu, Sabah, would be lifted as scheduled today.

“The Health Ministry has conducted 65 screenings and 26 Covid-19 cases were recorded.

“It said cases in the locality are in a downtrend and the active clusters are under control.”

Meanwhile, standard operating procedure (SOP) violators during the weekend touched three digits again on Saturday.

Ismail Sabri said 100 individuals were nabbed for breaching SOP, 97 of which were issued compounds and three remanded.

Offences recorded were failure to observe physical distancing (48), failure to provide equipment to record customers’ information (27), engaged in activities at entertainment outlets (12), not wearing face masks (11) and interstate/interdistrict travel without permission (two).
