MB: Only 21pc of Perak folk have signed up for vaccination

-

Registration for Covid-19 vaccination in Perak remains low at only 21.1 per cent up to Sunday, Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said.

He said 406,380 people in the state had registered to get vaccinated, but the figure was still low.

He said the state government would appoint and deploy volunteers to urge people to register for vaccination immediately.

“We have discussed this matter with Dr Ding (Perak Health director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming) and exco members that we need to redouble efforts to promote the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

“We can do it at mall entrances, night markets, state assemblymen service centres, even football fields. We want more people to register for the Covid-19 vaccine.”

Saarani said this after receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Indera Mulia Stadium vaccination centre here yesterday.

Asked why registration for vaccination was low, he said the state government did not study the reason behind it, but he believed it was because many people adopted a “wait and see” approach.

“Though the prime minister was the first person in the country to receive the vaccine and I was the first person in Perak to get vaccinated, many people still prefer to wait and see.

“My advice is, don’t wait and see. Register immediately and wait for your turn to be called.”

On awareness of the vaccination programme among the Orang Asli in Perak, Saarani said he had discussed the matter with the Orang Asli Development Department to get more Orang Asli to register for vaccination.

“Some areas in the Orang Asli community have no Internet connection. We discussed this with the department last week and registration will be done manually.”
