PM: People play a role in ensuring political stability

-

The government needs the people to participate in solutions that will lead to political stability.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the country was facing three main challenges — the Covid-19 pandemic, the economy and political instability.

He said the challenges, particularly political instability, would affect the economy in terms of drawing in foreign investments.

“I recognise that we are facing these challenges, therefore as political leaders in Perikatan Nasional, we are doing our job to create a sense of stability. We need to initiate that, not others.

“But we also need others to participate in the solutions to address the country’s political instability. No single party can lead the country with political stability and harmony without cooperation from all.”

He said the ruling coalition and the opposition had roles to play in ensuring stability.

He was responding to a question from an audience member on how the government would regain the people’s confidence.

On integrity and eradicating corruption among civil servants, Muhyiddin said: “As a government that emphasises integrity, we continuously look into corruption or abuse of power.

“We make it a priority and set key performance indicators (to eradicate corruption). That is why we have decided to go all out in our Anti-Corruption Plan, which is being implemented at all levels, with all heads of ministries and agencies signing on to fight corruption.

“This cannot be compromised as we have been given the trust by the people to govern the country,” said Muhyiddin, who also chairs the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption.
