1,116 SECOND LOWEST THIS YEAR

Selangor tops list with 403 cases, 5 deaths reported

MALAYSIA yesterday recorded its second lowest figure for new Covid-19 cases this year at 1,116, bringing the total number of cases to 334,156.

On March 16, the country logged this year’s lowest daily number with 1,063 new cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 14,134 active cases.

He said 1,108 were local infections (722 Malaysians and 386 foreigners), while eight others were imported (including five Malaysians).

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 403 (36.1 per cent), with 337 cases (83.6 per cent) from clusters and active close-contact tracing.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (158 cases or 14.2 per cent) and Sarawak (124 cases or 11.1 per cent), he said.

“There are 156 cases being treated at intensive care units, with 60 on ventilator support.

“There were 1,495 new recoveries reported today (yesterday), raising the number of patients who have recovered to 318,784 (95.4 per cent).”

He added that five deaths (four Malaysians and one foreigner) were reported, bringing the death tally to 1,238 (0.37 per cent).

On Covid-19 clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry had detected 10 new ones. Eight of them were linked to workplaces, pushing the number of clusters to 1,307.

Johor reported three new clusters, followed by Kuala Lumpur (two) and one each in Labuan, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Pahang and Sarawak.

They were the Taman Tunku, Jalan Usahawan Constructi­on Site, Batu 22, Jalan Tenteram, Jalan Kemajuan, Jalan Helang, Jalan Gambang, Industri Permata, Rajang and Jalan Belimbing clusters.

“There are 411 active clusters, with the highest cases today (yesterday) reported from Jalan Usahawan Constructi­on Site (70 cases), Tanjung Suria (70) and Jalan Harapan Prison (55),” said Dr Noor Hisham.

He said 15 clusters end yesterday: Jalan Bursa, Selambau, Jalan Air Hitam, Jun Heng, Ladang Tangkaraso­n, Industri Serkam, Jalan Seroja, Jalan Telok Gong, Jalan Klinik, Plastik Subang, Jalan Stadium constructi­on site, Jalan Kota constructi­on site, Batu Dua Setengah, Perdana Tiga and Pasar Jalan Putra clusters.

He said 896 clusters had ended.
