IGP: Move to expose ‘cop cartel’ not career-driven

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador rubbished claims that he deliberately exposed the “police cartel” prior to his retirement to secure an extension of service.

“No! That’s not me. I have a sense of pride in me.

“Once I have retired, I won’t get involved in the force. I’m going to go back to doing farming again.

“I don’t have ambitions to stay on and I’m confident that my colleagues are capable of continuing where I left off,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman yesterday.

He stressed that his intentions were purely to ensure that the force remained respectable and with high integrity, without any old cultures creeping back when he leaves.

Hamid also said he knew those who were responsible for the cartel, but would not publicly name anyone.

“My information is verified and I know who they are. But yet (until now), I have not taken any disciplinary action against these officers.

“I’m hoping that this group will repent before they are made to don the orange attire,” he said, reassuring the public that the situation was well under his control.

For those who accused him of washing dirty linen within the force in the public, he said he was just there to state the truth because the force belonged to the public.

“I want them to know that I know. I’m just standing up here to tell the truth.”

He added that there was nothing wrong with officers having high ambitions, but the means or ways used to achieve those ambitions should be proper.
