-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno annual general meeting (PAU 2020) this weekend has been given the green light by the National Security Council (NSC).

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the approval from the federal security agency was received via a letter dated March 19.

“Umno will adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the NSC such as physical distancing, the use of face masks, temperature checks, MySejahtera app scan and hand sanitisation. “To comply with the SOP, Umno will rope in security personnel from the People’s Volunteer Corps and the Sabil Squad,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ahmad added that PAU 2020 will create history because it will be the first Umno annual general meeting to be held with a combination of face-to-face meetings and virtual platform involving 190 divisions.

He said public observers and Umno members who were not delegates would not be allowed to attend PAU 2020 at the Putra World Trade Centre.

“There will be no stalls, and food vehicles will not be allowed to operate,”

PAU 2020 will begin with the Wanita, Youth and Puteri movement meetings this Saturday and will be officiated by deputy party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The opening ceremony of PAU 2020 will take place on Sunday at Dewan Merdeka followed by the Policy Speech by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

PAU 2020 is being held in conjunction with Umno’s 75th Diamond Jubilee Celebration.
